DEI Pledge

At the Buck Institute we believe that every person, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socioeconomic status, deserves to thrive in our community, that diversity is an essential element of our science, and that breakthroughs can only occur in an open and inclusive environment. With members representing faculty, academic trainees, staff, and executive leadership, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Alliance (DEIA) aims to support Buck’s commitment to these principles. The mission of DEIA at work is to:

  • Educate the Buck community about issues affecting our underrepresented communities;
  • Advocate for change to make our community more inclusive, equitable, and diverse; and
  • Identify opportunities for the advancement of underrepresented groups.

The DEIA welcomes all employees and associates at the Buck who wish to be involved in supporting and contributing to these important goals.

MTA

The mission at Buck's Multicultural Trainee Association (MTA) is to foster a diverse and inclusive environment at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging by providing training and professional development opportunities to individuals from underrepresented and underserved communities. We also strive to engage our Bay Area community through education and mentorship to create a more equitable environment for individuals interested in pursuing STEM careers.

The Buck Queer Alliance

The Buck Queer Alliance is an inclusive and safe space for queer employees, trainees, and students to get together, support one another and discuss challenges and delights we face as a community. We also aim to engage with the wider Buck community to improve understanding of queer individuals and their experiences, raise awareness of issues, and provide education about best practices to ensure all queer individuals feel respected and supported here.
