Mitochondria and bioenergetics

The energy of life is impacted by aging.

Our focus is aging

Mitochondria power our cells by extracting energy from nutrients and distributing it to drive the machinery of life. Bioenergetics is the study of how energy flows through living systems. Both mitochondria and bioenergetics are impacted by aging, and age-related dysfunction is implicated in many diseases, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and diabetes. Buck researchers study free radicals (the toxic byproducts of energy metabolism) as well as mechanisms that inhibit mitochondrial function.
