Dear Impact Circle Members and Friends:

We are delighted to invite you to the 2019 Impact Circle! This is a by-invitation-only event for Impact Circle Members and interested friends of the Buck. Please feel free to bring guests.   You do not need to be an Impact Circle Member to attend, but you do need to be an Impact Circle Member to vote.  We encourage you to meet and mingle with our scientists and enjoy an exclusive peek behind the scenes at the Buck.

For those who are new to the Impact Circle, this is the perfect venue for supporters to get deeply immersed into the cutting-edge research underway at the Institute.   Each year, Impact Circle Members are presented with pitches from various labs for “Big Idea” projects that require seed funding to get off the ground.  Typically, these are collaborations between multiple faculty and staff members that are at too early a stage to qualify for a government grant.  Impact Circle Members choose the project they would like to fund by voting after all the presentations are completed.

Impact Circle Members receive early insights into promising new avenues of inquiry, and often enjoy the satisfaction of being part of a significant advancement in our scientific understanding.  For example, the Impact Circle’s first award to faculty members Judy Campisi and Julie Andersen for work on “Cancer and the Aging Brain” enabled their labs to obtain preliminary data that resulted in a successful $533,000 federal grant application to study the link between environmental toxins and Parkinson’s disease.  All of the projects awarded since its inception in 2014 have resulted in prominent publications and continuing research avenues.  The Impact Circle really does live up to its name!

Membership in the Impact Circle entails a donation of $5,000 per vote.  Couples are welcome to share their vote and come together.  Impact Circle Members are invited to an exclusive update and tour when the winning research project(s) is well underway.

We hope to see you there.
