Glenn-Campisi Symposium
We are pleased to announce the second annual Glenn-Campisi Aging Symposium on November 12th, 2026 at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. This event is supported by the Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and honors the legacy of Dr. Judy Campisi, a pioneer and visionary in the aging field. The symposium will include a Keynote talk by Dr. Laura Niedernhofer (Professor of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the University of Minnesota), as well as an invited speaker presentation by Dr. Martin Kampmann (Professor, UCSF). The day will also feature trainee talks from Bay Area scientists and a poster session.

Keynote Speaker
Laura Niedernhofer, MD, PhD
University of Minnesota
Dr. Laura Niedernhofer is the Director of the Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism(MIBAM) and Medical Discovery Team on the Biology of Aging.
She is also a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics at UMN. Dr. Niedernhofer’s expertise is in DNA damage and repair, genome instability disorders, cellular senescence and aging. Her research program is centered on studying fundamental mechanisms of aging and developing therapeutics to target them. Her research program implements a murine model of a human progeroid syndrome caused by a defect in DNA repair. She contributed to the discovery of a new class of drugs called senolytics.
Laura has served on study section for NCI, NIEHS and NIA. She has been awarded for research in aging, cancer and environmental health science.

Martin Kampmann, PhD
University of California, San Francisco
Dr. Kampmann is the Dorothy Bronson Professor in the UCSF Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases. He received his BA in Biochemistry from Cambridge University and his PhD from Rockefeller University. Dr. Kampmann’s goal is to uncover the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Kampmann co-invented CRISPRi and CRISPRa screening and pioneered CRISPR-based screens in human brain cell types such as neurons, microglia and astrocytes. More recently, his lab also established mouse in vivo CRISPR screening platforms. Key discoveries from the Kampmann lab include the first molecular description of neurons that are selectively vulnerable in Alzheimer’s Disease in the human entorhinal cortex; key cellular factors mediating aggregation, spreading and toxicity of the protein tau, which is thought to drive progression of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; the molecular pathway by which human mitochondria signal stress to the rest of the cell; and regulators of disease-relevant states of microglia and astrocytes. Dr. Kampmann directs the Hillblom Network for Tau Strain Mechanisms and is a co-director of the NIH-funded Tau Center without Walls. He was named an NIH Director’s New Innovator, an Allen Distinguished Investigator, an Alzheimer Association Zenith fellow, and a Bowes Biomedical Investigator, and he received the Rainwater Prize for Innovative Early Career Scientist, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration Award and the Byers Award in Basic Science.

San Francisco Airport/San Francisco/South Bay:
- Take Highway 101 North across the Golden Gate Bridge
- Take the last Novato exit — Atherton/San Marin Drive (just north of the DeLong exit)
- Turn left at the stoplight, and go west over the freeway overpass
- Get in the right lane, and turn right at the second stoplight onto Redwood Boulevard
- Go approximately ½ mile, and turn left onto Buck Center Drive
- At the top of the hill, turn left into the Visitor Parking Lot
Berkeley/Oakland/Oakland International Airport:
- Take Highway 80 to Highway 580 West, and cross the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge
- Take 580 until it merges with Highway 101 North in San Rafael
- Take the last Novato exit — Atherton/San Marin Drive (just north of the DeLong exit)
- Turn left at the stoplight, and go west over the freeway overpass
- Get in the right lane, and turn right at the second stoplight onto Redwood Boulevard
- Go approximately ½ mile, and turn left onto Buck Center Drive

From Sonoma County, take Highway 101 South:
- Take the first Novato exit (Atherton/San Marin Drive)

- At the top of the hill, turn left into the Visitor Parking Lot
