Summer Camps

Summer at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging offers local students the opportunity to experience science in an exciting, hands-on way!  Each summer, the Buck offers summer camps for students aged 9-14 years old in our state-of-the-art 1,400 square foot  Patxi's Pizza Learning Center, as well as the 2-week High School Immersion Program.  Please click on the links below for more information on each course offering.

Generous scholarships are also available based upon financial need.  To receive a scholarship application for any of the summer programs, contact the Learning Center at: learningcenter@buckinstitute.org; or call (415) 209-2000 x 6161.  Money should never be an obstacle to participate in a summer program at the Buck Institute!

WHAT: Take a Cellfy With a Scientist 

Program full. Incoming registration forms will be added to the waitlist on a first come-first served basis. Final enrollment in the program to be determined by May 30.

WHEN: June 26-June 30 2017, 10am – 3pm

WHO: Designed for students aged 12-14 years old (completing 6th and 8th grades)

COST: $400 for the week

WHAT: The Buck Brain Camp

WHEN: July 10 - 14, 2017, 10am – 3pm

WHO: Designed for students aged 10-12 years old (completing 4th and 5th grades)

WHAT: The Buck Research Immersion Program

WHEN: July 17 – 28, 2017 (10am - 3pm) - Two-week long Program

WHO: Designed for students completing grades 9-11

 COST: $800 for two weeks

About The Instructor:
A Bay Area native, Claire Spafford studied paleontology and geology at UCLA, and completed a Master’s in Educational Studies at the University of Michigan. Claire is excited to bring the cutting-edge science from the Buck out into the community, and to share her enthusiasm for the power of science with students of all ages. Her favorite dinosaur is Triceratops, and her favorite organelle is the mitochondria.
