Hands-On Kit

We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

Though we unfortunately cannot offer full summer camps this year, we are pleased to offer hands-on STEM experiences! We will mail STEM kits to your students that we can do together during a pre-scheduled zoom session. Each month we’ll be doing a new hands-on activity; you’ll get notified mid month about registration for the following month’s activity and schedule.

Once you register, we’ll mail you a kit that we’ll do in a 1-hour zoom session! Sessions will be offered 4 times monthly at various times to accommodate summer schedules.

For June, we’ll be doing DNA extraction! Following a brief introduction to DNA, students will get to extract their own DNA as well as DNA from a strawberry (parents must provide strawberry and rubbing alcohol).

Tuesday, June 15: 10am-11am
Thursday, June 17: 7pm-8pm
Tuesday, June 22: 1pm-2pm
Thursday, June 24: 7pm-8pm

Details:

  • Completely free, with optional donation
  • Registration is monthly—you will need to register each month if you want to do the activity for the following month. We will send out notifications when registration opens up
  • Each session can hold a max of 40 students. Registration is first-come, first-served and will have a waitlist if necessary
  • Activities are planned for students ages ~10-14. Younger students are welcome to register and attend, but might need some adult guidance to complete the activities.

We actively work to overcome financial barriers to participation in STEM education. We are able to offer this summer activity at no cost due to the generosity of the Clive Family Foundation. If you are able to contribute via an optional donation, you can support the continued efforts of the Buck Institute to provide inclusive and dynamic STEM opportunities for our community. When selecting a date above, please note that the $25 and $50 options are donations to our program. We are grateful for your support of STEM.
