Technology Transfer

Buck Institute scientists advance the field by publishing the results of their research in peer-reviewed journals allowing scientists from around the world to apply Institute findings to their own research.  Buck scientists also discover and invent technologies that could potentially be used as research tools, diagnostics and therapeutics. The Buck Institute’s Technology Transfer Department supports the Institute’s mission of extending the healthy years of life by transferring basic research discoveries made in our laboratories to the marketplace for commercial development.

The work of the Buck Institute’s Technology Transfer Group usually falls into three basic categories:

  1. Exclusive/Non-exclusive Technology Licensing – These agreements support the Institute by managing the intellectual property discovered by Institute scientists.  Our purpose is to work with industry in the hopes of finding partners interested in further developing our discoveries. A sampling of our Selected Technologies is listed below.
  2. Corporate Sponsored Research – Many of the Buck investigators work with industry to advance their own discovery and pre-clinical programs as well as support those who are developing programs in overlapping fields of interest.  This is typically done through corporate sponsored research or collaborative research and development agreements.  The industry partner retains any intellectual property rights created during the research required to further advance their project.  Please contact us with any interest in Buck-industry collaborations.
  3. Material Transfer & Confidentiality Agreements - We are responsible for confidentiality and material transfer agreements between the Buck and industry as well as universities and other non-profits. We are happy to assist faculty and industry alike with this function.
