Glenn James Geesman, Volunteer Intern B.Sc.

I am currently working full time at the Buck Institute. I plan to apply to medical school next year. My dream is to eventually become a Trauma Surgeon.

Education:

Aptos HS (2005) – Graduated 2005 in top 5% of class. 4.2 GPA. Student Body President. Football Captain. Wrestling Captain. First ever member of 1200lbs Club for weightlifting.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2009) – B.S. in Biology 3.3 GPA.

Activities:

MIT – Dorm Social Chair, Alpha Tao Omega Scholarship Chair and Workweek Chair, MIT Football, MIT Crew (Captain, 12th at Freshmen DI Nationals), and MIT Wrestling (2x Captain, 2x Most Valuable Player, 2x 1st in Conference Tournament/ National Qualifier, 3rd at DIII National Tournament, All-American, 2008 recipient of the Phillip Trussell award for skill, sportsmanship, and levity.)

General Chemistry, Introductory Biology, Introduction to Biological Engineering, Bioethics, Organic Chemistry, Introduction to Experimental Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, General Immunology, Biological Regulation, Principles of Human Disease, and Experimental Microbial Genetics.

Lab Experience:

Completion of introductory experimental biology lab course at MIT. Includes experience in: experimental techniques in microbiology, biochemistry, and cell and developmental biology. I’ve recently completed Project Lab, the major, senior lab class for biology students which expands on techniques learned in the introductory lab and emphasizes scientific writing as a focus.

Current Employment:

I am currently working as a research intern in the Buck Institute’s Lunyak Lab. My research involves pathways of inhibiting Mesenchymal Stem Cell senescence.

Additional Notes for Consideration:

Completed EMT training course August 2007, and became nationally certified in June 2008.
