High School Students: For the past ten years, the Buck Institute has sponsored a summer program designed to provide Marin high school students with exposure to biomedical research. Both the students and the Institute seem to have benefited. In 2010, however, a hiatus in the program is necessary; no decision about subsequent years has been made.
High school students working in a research laboratory require considerable supervision to ensure their safety and optimize their learning experience. In recent years, the Buck Institute has taken on new educational programs involving undergraduate and graduate university students, whose scientific backgrounds enable them to take better advantage of the experience we have to offer. In turn, the need to staff these programs reduces the number of Buck scientists available to work with high school students.
We regret that the summer program for high school students will not be offered in 2010, especially as some students will be disappointed. We encourage them to visit our website next year to see what research opportunities are available at the high school or college level.
Extending The HealthyYes! I'd like to support the Buck Institute for Age Research and help scientists in their efforts to add healthy years to our lives.
